This year marks the 25th anniversary of Hocus Pocus, a classic in everyone's Halloween movie marathons! To celebrate I have decided to go a different route on the tradition pumpkin carving. I used paint and yarn to complete these special pumpkins including buying white pumpkins instead of the usual orange!
These 3 ladies were really easy to make, it was simply sketching out their mouths and painting them on nice and big to take up most of the room on the surface. To create each of their hair styles was a bit of a challenge.
Winifred Sanderson and her icon red hair. I created this look by getting squishy stress balls from the dollar store, make sure these are the foam type so you can cut them. Using a glue gun and scissors I cut the first ball in half and glued it flat side down onto the top of the pumpkin. Next I cut a quarter of the ball on a diagonal, and glue each on the ball on the pumpkin, you will see it looks a bit like Mickey's head, this is the correct positioning.
With some red yarn glue the first piece into place and simply wrap the yarn all around adding drop of glue as you go, this keeps the yarn from falling off the odd angles. Wrap until completely covered and your done!
Mary Sanderson and her crazy purple hair, great enough to match her personality. For this I used a toilet paper roll, some card stock and purple yarn. First you need to fold one top of the roll and staple it into a point. Next trace out a curved shape on the card stock and cut out. You will glue this to the stapled end of the roll. It should look like cane. Next glue it to the top of the pumpkin and glue the first part of the yarn and start wrapping. I did a few layers of the yarn to give it the body it needs!
Sarah Sanderson was a little easier to create as she has long blonde hair. All I did was cut a bunch of long strands of yarn and glue them at the middle point on the top of the pumpkin, using a permanent marker I made the part in her hair and thats it! You are complete!
Mix things up this Halloween with different types of pumpkins and be the talk of the neighbourhood!
