My Journey to Better Vision!

Updated: Sep 5, 2019

My journey to better vision. I noticed a while ago that I was having trouble focusing on what I was doing, and I don't mean changing from task to task. My eyes would go blurry and have trouble focusing, almost like when you are taking a picture on your phone and it tries to focus.

I started to pay attention to it more and how often it was happening, linking it to my screen time and driving time. I am an influencer and a full time Social Media and Events Coordinator which means that I am literally on my devices for 8 plus hours a day! Scary to think of it that way but it's the truth. At one point the only time I was not looking at a screen for work was the drive to and from work, and even then the distant signs I was having a hard time reading.

I decided to get my eyes tested to protect myself going forward in my career.

I was introduced to Dana at Inspired by Rossland Optical by a mutual friend, and they insisted I see her first and only. And let me tell you I was not disappointed! Dana and her team greeted me the second I walked in the door, answered all my questions and booked me in for my eye exam.

I waited in the lounge for my appointment, enjoyed a cup of tea and read magazines until they were ready to start my tests!

Dana and Dr. Lee listened to my concerns, we talked about what I did for a living and they explained the eye exam thoroughly. This helped me understand more about the process and how my lifestyle was impacting my vision.

The eye exam was easy, comfortable and a breeze! Dr. Lee explained everything he was doing and finding. It was a great way to ask him all the questions I had as to why I was having the issues I was having and how to better my health starting with my vision! He was happy to answer all my questions and put my concerns to rest!

We then did the OCT test, which Dana took me out to the information poster and explained in detail the whole process, what it tests for and why it's beneficial at any age to do it! Dana said one thing that really stuck with me and I didn't really think of it before she said it.

She said, “Your eyes are the gateway to your brain” and went on to explain this test can see many brain health issues before symptoms arise allowing you to take proactive measures to help you in the future.

I obviously opted to have this test done, and once again I was in the chair getting ready, slightly nervous as it sounded like a lot, but it was nothing! They explained everything to me in full and showed me all the scans and pictures they were taking as well! Very cool to see my eyes in that type of way!

After discussing my prescription, we also went into depth about lenses and how important those will be for my frames. I needed blue light and SPF protection to help protect my eyes from the hours of screen time and the hours in traffic! I did not realize the complexity of the lenses and how they can change everything when it comes to protecting your vision.

From there Dana spent quite a bit of time with me helping me find the right frame for my face! I put Dana through the wringer, and she didn't miss a beat! I explained what I liked and she even studied my face to see what shape frame would compliment me best!

I went off on my own as she pulled some frames for me to try. Surprisingly everything I thought I loved did not flatter my face at all, every style I pulled and tried on I immediately did not like and put back, she watched me for a bit while I tried to navigate the store before she sat me down with her decisions.

Dana hit the mark with every pair she picked out for me, there was not one pair I did not like. This posed a problem for Dana as now I was very indecisive. Dana helped me narrow down my choices and pointed out different features and details on certain frames and helped me choose the frames that are both stylish and comfortable! Now I had my choices down to 3 which made it much easier.

Each very different than the others, I had a very tough decision to make but I eventually came down to 2 pairs with the help of a staff vote and eventually one just kept catching my eye (pardon the pun) and I had to have them!

Dana then measure my face and the frames and put together the order for me! This was it, I was on my way to help my vision and not once did I feel overwhelmed or stressed out!

5 days later I got a phone call from Dana letting me know my glasses were in and ready for pick up, I went straight after work so I was too excited to wait any longer! She made some final adjustments to customize the frames specifically for my petite face. She explained my lenses and demonstrated how to use them properly including advice on how to not get a sore neck when using the computer. Dana packed everything up and I was on my way!

Leaving her shop feeling relieved and confident in my new glasses!

Thank you, Dana and your team for having me and helping me every step of the way! If you are in the GTA and need optical help please visit Dana and her team at Inspired by Rossland Optical in Whitby, you won't regret it!
