Staying Cozy ... Back To School!

Living in Canada has its up's and downs. Especially when it comes to our weather. The last 2 weeks of summer in Toronto 2017, were not so hot. Actually some days were sweater weather! Perfect weather to get into the chilly fall mind set, so here is a super cute Varsity Style Minnie Sweater!

Once again I got this super soft long sleeve at Ardene, with is being 70% off I got it for $5.90! This sweater is a size small but the perfect amount of baggy to make it super cozy!

This sweater I made differently from the baseball tee. I used Heat Transfer Vinyl! This can be bought anywhere craft items are sold but my local Michaels for $15 a roll, and you can get a lot out of a roll!

I chose the Siser Easyweed HTV (Heat Transfer Vinyl), it is the best vinyl I have used so far, not problems with peeling off the fabric, even after washing and drying it a few times!

For this you will need:

- Sweater

- Stencil

- Siser Easy Weed HTV

- Exacto Knife

- Iron

When using Siser Easyweed HTV you will be cutting the vinyl side, please note that the shiny "plastic" looking side will be the side you apply the iron to, you will need to cut the black vinyl side to be successful in this project.

Also when printing your stencil mirror the image , especially if you are using script. This will make the cut backwards, so when you iron it on it will be the right way...... I hope that was not to confusing!

Using your Exacto Knife cut out your stencil (backwards) on the vinyl side. You will then peel off all the extra vinyl off, this is all the areas you do not need, such as in between the lettering, and the small details inside the letters (see above).

Once you have you image weeded (all extra vinyl peeled off is called weeding) and mirrored, you can now flip it over with the shiny side up and the image

looking proper.

Place the image on the sweater where you want it, remember to be creative with placement, but also remember high traffic areas that could effect your sweater from peeling or getting caught on anything.

Once you have placed the image where you like it is time to iron, but you need some pressure. With you iron on the cotton setting place over the image and place pressure on parts of the stencil for 10 - 15 seconds at a time, moving the iron slowly over the image to fully adhere the vinyl. DO NOT USE STEAM!

Next, try slowly peeling off the plastic coating so the vinyl comes off without pulling of lifting off the fabric. If it comes off perfectly you in the clear to peel it off completely, if you have some trouble peeling it off continue to add the iron and pressure until you can peel it off with no sticking.

For best results peel off plastic coating while warm, not to hot because you may burn yourself.

This varsity style style sweater is great for the cooler morning before the first bell, and easy to layer for when it warms up!

I cant wait to see your versions of this sweater! Send me pictures of your DIY to be featured!
